ExxonMobil and BP have pulled out of talks to secure ultra-deep water blocks in Ghana's Tano basin because they want to focus instead on exploration initiatives elsewhere off Ghana, writes Barry Morgan.

Ghana Energy & Petroleum Minister John Peter Amewu said the two supermajors had been in talks with Ghana's authorities about blocks WB-05 and WB-06.

However, he said ExxonMobil’s sudden loss of interest in acquiring additional Tano basin acreage was explained by a decision to concentrate on its operated Deepwater Cape Three Points (DWCTP) block.
