As operator of the upstream section of the Camisea gas project and the biggest single producer of hydrocarbons in Peru, Pluspetrol has a high profile in the country.

Pluspetrol also operates blocks 1AB and 8 in north-east Peru's Maranon basin, which together account for about 34,000 barrels per day of crude production, a fifth of the country's total output.

In 2008, the company completed a major environmental upgrade project on Block 1AB, ending a practice of depositing formation waters directly into tributories of the Amazon fluvial system.
