The well spudded six months ago in Block PPL 269 in the Highlands region of Western Province, and was targeting a large early-cretaceous Toro sandstone reservoir.
A number of difficulties arose during the operation, forcing at least three sidetracks and stuck pipe events.
Santos, one of the joint venture partners, said the partners had “reluctantly conceded” at the Strickland-1 location, and were plugging and abandoning the well.
