Papua New Guinea's incumbent Prime Minister Peter O'Neill is confident that his party will lead a new coalition government, even though vote counting from the national election is well behind schedule.

Final results were due on 24 July, but the PNG Governor General Bob Dadae has extended this deadline until 28 July.

As Upstream went to press, only 51 of 111 seats had been decided, and O’Neill's People's National Congress had secured about one third of these.
