The Philippines government has asked state-owned Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to study scenarios on what will happen to the giant Shell-operated Malampaya gas field after the expiry in 2024 of Service Contract 38 on which it is located, writes Amanda Battersby.
Philippines Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said last week there was no way that his department would extend SC 38 on the same terms as the existing contract under which the Anglo-Dutch supermajor operates Malampaya.
