Brazil’s Lula field is expected to achieve a production plateau of more than 900,000 barrels per day, but effective management of reservoir pressure is likely to hold the key to this objective, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

The Lula field ramped up oil production from 80,000 bpd to more than 800,000 bpd in a five-year period.

Petrobras is scheduled to put two new floating production, storage and offloading units into production on the giant field this year — one on Lula North and another at the Lula Far South location — adding another 300,000 bpd of oil producing capacity to conclude the first phase of development.
