Unlike the Marcellus or Eagle Ford, where there was little production before operators began to drill horizontal wells, thousands of bores penetrate, and often produce, from portions of the Spraberry.
The dynamic adds another level of complexity for geologists trying to pick targets and drilling engineers trying to steer horizontal wells through a minefield of existing verticals.
