An investigation has been launched into a serious “near miss” incident after a cable snapped as a 22-tonne blowout preventer was being lifted on Talisman Sinopec Energy UK’s (TSEUK) Claymore platform.

The BOP was not dropped but the incident on Thursday 19 February led to the temporary shutdown of production, which resumed the following day.

“TSEUK can confirm that there was a report relating to a dropped object potential following the failure of a lifting device on the Claymore platform on Thursday.
