PTT, the former Petroleum Authority of Thailand, is forging ahead with plans for a 230-kilometre, 42-inch oil pipeline with an expected throughput capacity of 3 million barrels per day.
The intention is that the pipeline from Thap Lamu to Sichon will be a cheaper, faster alternative to shipping oil via the pirate-infested Malacca Straits and Singapore waters.
The pipeline would cut about 800 kilometres off the usual Middle East to Far East crude export route and save $1.50
