US supermajor ExxonMobil has been applying the knowledge and experience gained from its successes in the US Permian basin to Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale play.

The company said its US subsidiary XTO has doubled its feet per day drilling rate in the prolific Texas and New Mexico basin, driving down drilling and completion costs.

XTO is providing operational support to ExxonMobil in Argentina and the first horizonal wells drilled in the Bajo del Choique and La Invernada blocks have drawn on the company’s experience in the Permian by moving towards longer lateral lengths.
