Just visible on the horizon is the Kribi export terminal from which tankers load up export crude and through which some 225,000 barrels per day of oil from Chad's Doba basin will eventually pass before 2004. Cutting a 35-metre gorge through Cameroon's savannahs and jungles, the pipeline drives right through the traditional habitat of the Bagyeli pygmy population, scattered throughout some five villages located deep in the rainforest.
