Qatar Petroleum (QP) has handed two rig owners a total of eight charter deals between them for jack-ups to work on the state-owned player’s giant North Field Expansion (NFE) liquefied natural gas project in Qatar.

Local company Gulf Drilling International (GDI) has been handed six of the contracts, with US-based Northern Offshore Drilling taking the other two.

All the rigs will work on the NFE project, which involves raising liquefied natural gas capacity at Qatar's giant North Field from a current 77 million tonnes per annum to 110 million tpa.
