The lift, by Heerema derrick semi-submersible Hermod, is being carried out in two stages and will reveal to Shell for the first time the extent of damage to the facility's processing systems that lie under the estimated 1000 tonnes of rig debris toppled by the thrashing winds and waves of Hurricane Katrina. According to Shell officials, the first-of-its-kind lift has been the source of extensive study and engineering to find the balance between safety and minimising further damage to the TLP.
