The venture had contemplated scrapping the FPSO, and replacing it with a new floater, but has opted to retain it.
Woodside chief executive Don Voelte said recently: "Cossack Pioneer oil production has remained strong through 2006 and we are now planning to upgrade and extend the life of the vessel beyond 2009."
The FPSO will go into a yet-to-be-decided shipyard in 2009, and sources said the floater will be off location for up to six months.
