Reliance is looking at a replacement rig for Transocean’s drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG-2 (DDKG-2), the contract for which expires in February 2015.
The company wants a drillship capable of operating in water depths of up to 12,000 feet.
Sources said that the drillship is likely to be hired for a four-year term, although the contract term has yet to be finalised.
One source tipped Transocean as the frontrunner in Reliance’s rig hunt because of the working relationship between the two companies and this could see DDKG-2 again working for the Indian operator.
