Spanish giant Repsol is in talks to acquire fresh deep-water acreage off Guyana and Exxon-Mobil is beefing up its position there as global players look to tighten their grip on the frontier play in the wake of the US supermajor’s ground-breaking Liza discovery.
Repsol has applied to the government for an exploration licence for Block C, an ultra-deepwater block to the north-east of Stabroek, where ExxonMobil made its Liza discovery, Guyana Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman told Upstream on the sidelines of the TT Energy Conference in Port of Spain this week.
