Repsol started drilling the Gavea exploration well in ultra-deepwater Block BM-C-33, on 23 November, using the drillship Stena Drillmax.
The campaign in water depths of 2708 metres is expected to extend through the first quarter of 2011. The well will be drilled to a final depth of about 6700 metres.
Repsol has so far had a disappointing year in its operated offshore blocks in Brazil.
