US drillers added oil rigs last week but dropped more gas-directed units as the pace of increases in the closely watched Baker Hughes tally showed signs of slowing amid a pull-back in operator spending.
There were three more oil rigs drilling in the week to 11 August, bringing the total count to 768, the most since April 2015, according to Baker Hughes, now majority owned by GE.
