Dangerous, potentially fatal explosions on gas pipelines could one day become a thing of the past thanks to a new robot designed to patrol pipelines and instantly detect leaks.
Autonomous robots equipped with tiny chemical sensors that listen to the “sounds” emanating from gases will instantly detect gas leaks in pipelines and petrochemical plants to dramatically improve disaster responses, proponents say.
