Rwanda and Russia have signed a mining and hydrocarbons co-operation agreement at the Russia-Africa Economic Forum in Sochi, Russia, writes Iain Esau.

The agreement covers geological surveys, exploration and the provision of equipment and services in Rwanda’s mining, oil and gas sectors.

Rwanda’s Mines, Petroleum & Gas Board (RMB) signed the deal with Rosgeo, Russia’s state-controlled geological survey player. Francis Gatare, RMB’s chief executive and also a member of Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s Cabinet, said the agreement “aims to foster Russian investments in Rwanda’s mining, oil and gas sector".
