Russian operator Rosneft has started a new drilling operation off Vietnam using the semi-submersible drilling rig Hakuryu-5.
The owner of the semisub, Japan Drilling Company, said operations began on 12 May 2019 under a one-well contract lasting between 60 and 90 days in an area off the Vietnamese city of Vung Tau.
Rosneft has interests in two blocks in Vietnam's Nam Con Son basin - a 35% operating interest in Block 6-1, which contains the producing Lan Tay and Lan Do gas fields, and a 100% interest in Block 05-3/11, an exploration permit.
