Rosneft has declared another oil discovery in the Russian Arctic, this time in the shallow-water Khatanga Bay in the Laptev Sea.

The state-controlled Russian oil producer said three core samples from an appraisal well, currently being operated from the shore of the Khara-Tumus peninsula, indicated a “high saturation of the formation with a predominance of light oily fractions”.

Rosneft said the samples were taken from a depth of between 2305 and 2365 metres.
