A Russian military spokesman said the army airlifted an MT-12 Rapira anti-tank gun from the Orenburg region to the city of Novy Urengoy in West Siberia’ Yamal-Nenets region over the weekend to help in the operation to kill the well.

The gun was then towed to the field to fire a shot to clear the R-23 well’s damaged christmas tree.

Control of the well was lost on 19 August during preparations for a workover job by local contractor Urengoyremstroydobycha.
