The move was made possible after private Russian company NaftaTrans completed a transhipment facility at Kavkazskaya on 31 October.

The site consists of a rail receiving and storage facility that can handle 123,000 barrels per day and is connected by pipeline to CPC's Kropotkin pumping station in Russia, according to a statement from CPC.

The first Russian oil to be shipped through the CPC pipeline belonged to the country's fourth largest producer, Surgutneftegaz.
