Government officials in Sabah are continuing to push Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to increase the 5% oil royalty paid to the hydrocarbon-producing state.

“The 5% value is ludicrous in this day and age,” said Kemabong assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar. “The state government, through Chief Minister Shafie Apdal, has asked for an increase of the oil royalty to 20% for Sabah.”
