The field, officially known as the Sable Offshore Energy Project, has been on stream 10 years and has at least six more years of life left in it.
It has endured a tough year with low gas prices and high costs causing the operator to focus even more on its margins.
In addition, production has fallen in the last six months after a scheduled turnaround in August was interrupted when Hurricane Bill swept through the province.
