For several months, the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has headlined its speeches around the conference circuit with the question, “Is safety at a crossroads?”

After the past week, we can safely assume that the answer is “yes”.

It started at the Sture oil terminal on 12 October, when a nitrogen sulphide leak sent five people to hospital.

Then, during 30 hours last weekend, three offshore installations were hit by a well control incident, a fire, and a gas-leak, respectively.
