Recent statistics from the Australia Petroleum Production & Exploration Association show a recordable injuries rate of just over five per million hours worked in the nation’s coal seam gas industry.
This compares to the international oil and gas industry average of around two, according to Queensland Gas Company’s operations director Walter Simpson.
“We must maintain a safety mindset to ensure we put this right,” he says, noting the impacts on the wider community of getting it wrong.
