The Canadian independent has passed its decision to its production sharing partner China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) for final approval.
Sources said CNOOC is expected to endorse the award in a few weeks.
Saipem beat Technip, Acergy and a consortium of Global Industries and Subsea 7 to land the recommendation from Husky.
Sources said the prices offered by Saipem and Global Industries were very close, but Husky opted for the Italian contractor due to its subsea experience and its fleet’s mature technology and track record.
