Saipem said the all-cash transaction, which is set to close at the end of next month, will give it a better balance between the capital intensive, offshore sector and the less capital intensive onshore business stream, spreading any risks as a result.
Martijn Rats, an analyst with Morgan Stanley, said the deal as "very favourable" and that the purchase price is "attractive".
