The carrier, Grand Mereya, has been named after the Mereya River running near the port of Prigorodnoye in the south of Sakhalin Island, where Sakhalin Energy is building one of the world's largest LNG plants.
It is the third LNG carrier to be built for Sakhalin Energy, with two previous units delivered to the company last year. All three are capable of transporting about 145,000 cubic metres of LNG.
