At the end of last week, about 300 people blocked temporary roads that lead to the construction sites of oil and gas onshore processing facilities for the Sakhalin-1 Chaivo and Sakhalin-2 Lunskoye fields.
The pickets lasted three days and a demand was made that operators halt their activities and conduct a research study to gauge the effect of large-scale development on the life of indigenous peoples and local habitats.
