Chief executive James Menzies said the Phu Kheng-1 probe will be drilled on the crest of a large Jurassic-Triassic structure and, if successful, could open up a significant new geological play in the Khorat Plateau basin of north-east Thailand.

The well will be fractured because of the play's tight reservoirs to assess its productivity.

Phu Kheng covers an area of about 125,000 acres—partly extending into an adjacent block held by PTTEP—with reserves potential of multi-trillion cubic feet of gas, according to Salamander.
