Three South Korean yard giants have been locked in battle over contracts to build two giant platform topsides for Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup development off Norway — and one of them has gained the upper hand on the eve of awards being made.
Samsung Heavy Industries is said by sources to be on the verge of winning both of the remaining Sverdrup topsides fabrication awards, to be placed imminently by the Norwegian national oil company.
