The company spudded the Tuy Hoa–1X wildcat in Block 123 on 20 August using the semi-submersible Ocean General.
Santos said the well was drilled to a total depth of 2897 metres and hit a non-commercial hydrocarbon column in the early to middle Miocene target interval.
Santos and its partners are planning a 3D seismic programme in 2012 to evaluate the remaining prospects in Block 123, said the company.
