Sarawak lawmakers have assured the new federal government in Malaysia they will keep it informed of their plans for greater autonomy over the East Malaysian state’s oil and gas industry — suggesting a more collaborative and harmonious relationship moving forward.

“The state government will not encroach into areas that are under the constitutional authority of the federal government and will work with the federal government and Petronas to ensure that the oil and gas industry will continue to grow in Malaysia and contribute to the economic success of our nation,” said Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg.
