Saudi Arabia has named its first ever female ambassador, with Princess Reema bint Bandar al-Saud to take up the key role in Washington DC.
The appointment, made last weekend by royal decree, comes as the Opec kingpin attempts to improve its relations with the US following the murder last year in Istanbul of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Princess Reema, a member of the royal family, is taking over the reins in the US capital from Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the younger brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is the effective ruler of the kingdom.
