The dip also comes as the first phase of the Horizon project nears completion.
At Horizon, delays in the project's first phase have caused costs to jump C$441 million, bringing the current price tag to C$9.7 billion.
While significant progress has been made, Horizon "cannot experience any further issues that will cause delay to our schedule", said CNRL chief operating officer Steve Laut.
