SBM to provide FPSO for BP off Angola

Monaco-based SBM Offshore has confirmed that it will secure a contract to supply at least one floating production, storage and offloading vessel for the first of BP's proposed batch of deep-water Angolan projects, writes Iain Esau.

Subject to project sanction and under a "call-off frame agreement", SBM said a contract for the first FPSO will be issued in the second half of 2009 and that subsequent FPSOs "may be called off subject to the sanction of future projects".

Before then, SBM said an initial contract has been signed for early engineering and fabrication works to support enhanced fabrication capability in Angola.
