Scan's vessel Geo Searcher is en route to complete acquisition of the 9500 line-kilometre survey that was suspended in July as the monsoon approached.
The UK supermajor was awarded Offshore Indus blocks U, V and W, which cover a combined area of 21,000 square kilometres, in July 2006.
"The offshore Indus Delta is a very exciting prospect for us, with a geology that our experience tells us has a strong potential for containing hydrocarbon resources," BP Pakistan president Tariq Khamisani said.
The survey programme was halted with only 1500 line kilometres of the data having been collected. Scan's vice president marketing and sales, Kjell Karlsson, said that operator BP had called for the shoot to be stopped as the data quality could have been affected by the bad sea and wind conditions.
"However, we were quickly able to turn this challenging situation into an opportunity by a swift diversion of the vessel crew on to another 2D project off Sri Lanka, which has since been successfully completed," said Karlsson.
The Pakistan 2D survey will keep Geo Searcher busy into the first quarter of 2008. The vessel is also lined up for some routine maintenance and a classification inspection, which is expected to entail three to four weeks in dock.
