Schlumberger said in a securities filing that it took the decision to restructure its WesternGeco fleet to lower its operating costs “due to expectations of lower exploration spending”.
It plans to retire six older Explorer-class vessels that have lower towing capacity and higher operating costs. It will also convert the remaining lower-end vessels to source boats, and will cancel most of its third-party charters.
