The capability that the CCS provides is an essential element in the evolution of a drilling system that can be based entirely underwater.
That was the major driver for evolving this equipment. Maris needed to be able to make and break drillstring connections in a way that prevents seawater getting into the system.
The CCS provides just that facility. Now the UK company, co-owned by Laurie Ayling, the inventor of the concept, reckons the case for taking the seabed rig into further development is getting stronger all the time given the industry´s drive towards ultra deep water and Arctic reserves.
