The work was completed using Seatrac's proprietary underwater jet-cutting system, dubbed Axe, an ROV spread and a utility work vessel. No explosives were deployed.
While such technology is common in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, Axe is the first of its kind to be developed and built in Western Australia.
An official at the state's Minerals and Petroleum Department claimed what Seatrac had achieved was "technically far superior to what has been achieved in the North Sea and GoM".
