Ayatsil lies 130 kilometers north-west of Ciudad del Carmen, in 114 meters of water. It was discovered in 2006, following the heavy oil trend from Cantarell into deeper waters.
The Ayatsil-Tekel complex incorporates 544 million barrels oil equivalent of proven reserves and 1.6 billion boe of proven, probable and possible resources if the neighbouring Pit-Kayab fields are included.
The Ayatsil development is likely to include a floating production, storage and offloading vessel able to process between 90,000 and 100,000 barrels per day, blending heavy crude from the eponymous field with much lighter crude from the Tabasco coastal projects.
