The company started CO 2 injection at Miranga in early 2010 to boost the field’s productivity, but faced unexpected mechanical problems in a few valves and was forced to shut the project for several months.
Petrobras, which has more than 25 years of experience with onshore projects in Bahia state using CO 2 injection for enhanced oil recovery, including at Buracica in 1991 and Rio Pojuca in 1999, expects Miranga to be an excellent test site for the pre-salt.
