Devon drilled a first well on Block BM-C-8 late in 2001, at a time when the Oklahoma-based company was moving to dispose of most of its assets in the Southern Cone region.
The block was acquired in Brazil's 2000 licensing round, but Devon decided to fast-track drilling plans, due to the fact that previous work had already established the presence of Guarajuba, a non-commercial field with deeper prospects.
