Somaliland is gearing up to drill its first exploration well after many fallow years, with the spud location likely defined by results of freshly-acquired seismic shot by Chinese contractor BGP.
China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) subsidiary BGP has completed a speculative 700-kilometre 2D seismic survey over the Sool and Sanaag districts.
The data “is currently being processed and interpreted, with an initial well anticipated in the second half of 2019”, Somaliland Minister of Energy & Minerals Juma Mohamud Egal told an energy forum in the capital, Hargeisa.
