US supermajor Chevron is building momentum at its Ubon offshore wet gas development in Thailand and is near to starting the bidding process for major services contracts.
The company and its joint venture partners PTTEP and Mitsui Oil Exploration began re-examining the project two years ago in order to reduce size and cost.
As an example, the joint venture has significantly pared back the size and weight of the central processing platform from 20,000-plus tonnes to 10,000 tonnes and, currently, 7000 tonnes.
