The floater, which is owned by Maersk FPSOs, a subsidiary of Danish giant AP Moller-Maersk, has been on lease to Shell and ExxonMobil since 1997, handling production from their Curlew oil and gas fields.
It is understood that the oil companies opted to embark on talks about buying the vessel after AP Moller-Maersk decided that its FPSO division was a non-core business.
