The system is based around a kind of “customised computer chip” being developed by HP as part of its micro electro-mechanical system research.
Multiples of these lightweight, low-powered sensors can be added to a land-based acquisition system to boost its channel count beyond the currently available range, enabling geologists to see the subsurface more clearly than before.
